ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions hit a significant milestone in its drive toward sustainability, the company announced Wednesday.
The Swedish company, which has its U.S. headquarters on Sargent Drive in New Haven, marked the achievement of 150 GreenCircle certifications for its products and factories. GreenCircle is an organization that provides independent verification of corporate sustainability claims.
ASSA ABLOY Americas Sustainable Solutions Director Amy Musanti said, “Our GreenCircle Certifications enable us to maintain credible, current data for our products and processes, and helps architects and designers easily identify contributors to green building certification programs like LEED and WELL.”
GreenCircle assessed ASSA ABLOY products including doors, door frames, door operators, accessories and other access control products to determine if they met sustainability standards.
Company facilities were also examined for sustainable manufacturing practices that reduce environmental impacts.
ASSA ABLOY launched a sustainability program in 2020 with science-based targets including halving its emissions worldwide by 2030, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
The company’s original factory in Eskilstuna, Sweden, was recently refurbished with a solar park on the roof generating over 600 MWh of electricity per year, LED lighting and low-energy ventilation, according to ASSA ABLOY’s most recent quarterly report.
