Arts Council Announces Let*s GO Arts! Card Drawings

The Greater Hartford Arts Council announces a series of Let*s Go Arts! card giveaways. Through Feb. 28, visitors to the Greater Hartford Welcome Center at 45 Pratt St. in Hartford can enter to win arts council membership cards, which entitle them to discounts at area cultural organizations and local restaurants.

A weekly drawing will be held for Let*s Go Arts! cards valid for three months. Once a month, one lucky entrant will win a free Let*s GO Arts! card valid for a full calendar year.

Winning names will be drawn on Fridays and announced each Tuesday in the Greater Hartford Arts Council’s weekly e-mail newsletter, called the 7-Day Arts & Entertainment Forecast (www.LetsGoArts.org/7-Day).

Let*s GO Arts! cards are the Greater Hartford Arts Council’s way of thanking donors who pledge at least $50 to the annual United Arts campaign, which provides grants and services to more than 150 arts and heritage organization through Greater Hartford.

The Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation Inc. announced that Paul J. Volpe of Manchester has joined its board of directors. He will serve a two-year term. Volpe retired from Fleet Bank, now Bank of America, where he was vice president and trust officer-personal trust. He has served on several boards of directors and has been an active volunteer for the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, Manchester Memorial Hospital and the Manchester school system. Volpe also fostered three Fidelco puppies, including “Ustus,” his current dog. Foster dog owners raise and socialize Fidelco puppies for up to 18 months before returning them to Fidelco for formal guide dog training.

Eastern Connecticut Health Network’s new, state-of-the-art cancer center, expected to be completed by the summer of 2010, will be named in honor of the late John A. DeQuattro.

A former chair of the ECHN Board of Trustees, DeQuattro worked for more than a quarter century to enrich the lives of area residents by enhancing and improving the medical services available to them. The future cancer center, dedicated to the prevention and treatment of cancer, will be a 30,000 square-foot, two-story facility located on the campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital.
