Zulma R. Toro, interim chancellor at University of Arkansas at Little Rock, starts in January as the first woman president of Central Connecticut State University.
The Board of Regents for Higher Education unanimously chose Toro as the university’s 13th leader from among three finalists after a seven-month long nationwide search that attracted 69 candidates.
Replacing Jack Miller who retired Sept. 19, she will start in her new position Jan. 3 at an annual salary of $289,500.
Richard Balducci, chair of the Regents Search Committee, called Toro an “outstanding scholar.”
She also has a diversified list of accomplishments that have contributed to “facilitating student, faculty and staff success, while broadening participation in higher education,” said Board of Regents Chairman Matt Fleury.
Toro’s full title at the University of Arkansas is chancellor, executive vice chancellor and provost.
Toro welcomed the new role, saying she would use “the transformational power of teamwork” to help “build on the university’s wonderful legacy.”
