Area house sales up in April

Sales of Greater Hartford houses rose 5 percent in April, with the pipeline of pending sales pointing to a resurgent homebuying market, area Realtors say. Prices were essentially flat.

Closed sales of single-family dwellings grew last month to 702 units vs. 669 in April 2014, the Greater Hartford Association of Realtors said Tuesday. Median price for dwellings sold last month reached $210,000 last month vs. $205,000 last year.

Single-family houses under contract but not yet closed stood at 1,228 units vs. 1,052 awaiting closing a year ago – a 17 percent gain, the association said.

So far this year, closed house sales are up 0.2 percent while pending sales are 11 percent higher.
