Arch Chemicals Inc. in Norwalk has settled a rival’s year-old patent-infringement lawsuit by agreeing to license wood-preservation technology that was the heart of the dispute, the companies say.
Arch and Osmose Inc., a private company in Buffalo, N.Y., both make preservatives to pressure treat wood for decks, fences, landscaping, agricultural, house framing and other general construction uses.
But Osmose claimed in a March 2010 lawsuit that Arch Treatment Technologies Inc. breached Osmose’s patent on the use of micronized wood preservatives to penetrate deeply into the fibers.
To end the spat, Arch has agreed to license that technology from Osmose. Whether any money changed hands or other terms of the license were kept confidential.
