Arch Chemicals Inc. in Norwalk said Thursday first-quarter profit nearly quadrupled on strong sales of chemical ingredients for antidandruff shampoos and industrial biocides.
Arch earned $11.8 million, or 47 cents a share, in the three months ended March 31, up from $3.2 million, or 13 cents a share, earned the same period last year.
Revenues rose to $298.7 million in the first quarter from $262.2 million the same period a year ago.
Arch’s profit beat Wall Street’s estimates, but revenues were below what analysts had expected.
Arch sold on March 31 its industrial coatings business to The Sherwin-Williams Co.
