Aquarion’s rate reduction takes effect

Bridgeport utility Aquarion Water Co., which serves 47 Connecticut communities, said its previously announced rate reduction has taken effect.

The company’s customers will see a 5.6 percent rate credit on their bills for the next three years.

The credits are the result of a $29 million refund from the Internal Revenue Service stemming from a change in tax regulations.

In a rate case last year with the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, Aquarion agreed to not seek a rate increase until 2017.
