April Hartford area house sales fell 34 percent from a year ago, further evidence of erosion in the U.S. housing market, authorities say.
Sales of single-family houses fell to 518 units last months from 783 units in April 2010, the Greater Hartford Association of Realtors said Wednesday.
However, sales were barely off 3 percent compared to March, the association said.
House prices were flat at a median $220,000 in April  compared to a year ago.
Unsold inventory also swelled in the period as new units came up for sale faster than the market could absorb them, the Realtors group said.
Condominium sales also plummeted 41 percent to 136 units in April from 230 a year ago.
Median condo sales prices dropped 1 percen to $154,950 from $156,250 last year.
