Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. plans to close its Berlin grocery store by Oct. 13, idling 82 workers, according to a layoff notice filed with the state.
A&P on Aug. 13 announced plans to close 25 stores and idle 2,000 workers by later this year in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and New York, but at the time did not identify specific locations.
The chain’s WARN filing with the Connecticut Department of Labor confirms the A&P Super Foodmart at 207 Webster Square is shutting down.
No other details about the store closing were immediately available.
Great Atlantic operates one other Connecticut A&P store in Middletown; one Waldbaum’s in West Hartford; and a single Food Emporium in New Canaan.
