Anthem’s credit protection services coming Friday

After a hack that could have exposed personal information of 80 million people, health insurer Anthem said it will start offering identity theft protection and credit monitoring services on Friday, Attorney General George Jepsen announced.

Anthem responded Wednesday to a letter Jepsen had sent Tuesday demanding further information from the insurer.

While most companies that make the news for hacks offer such services for one year, Anthem said it would offer them for two years.

“Anthem has been working to arrange these services since the attack on our system was discovered,” the company wrote.

Anthem said it has hired a vendor to offer identity repair services, credit monitoring, and identity theft insurance and monitoring.

Jepsen, who has commended Anthem for reporting the data breach relatively quickly, said he was pleased by the insurer’s response and urged all affected state residents to sign up for the services.
