Wallingford-based health insurer Anthem has renewed its contract with the state’s largest health system, Yale New Haven Health.
The new contract, announced Tuesday, ensures that Anthem members retain in-network access to Yale New Haven Health’s hospitals, facilities and healthcare providers.
Yale New Haven Health’s network includes Bridgeport, Greenwich, Lawrence + Memorial, Yale New Haven and Westerly hospitals and Northeast Medical Group, a physician foundation of primary care and medical specialists.
Anthem declined to disclose when the previous contract was due to expire, with a spokesperson stating “those terms are confidential under the agreement.”
Yale and Anthem said the new agreement aims to improve health outcomes, reduce costs and expand access to care, patient convenience and cost-effective treatment settings.
There will be a focus on reducing hospital readmissions through data-driven care coordination, evidence-based treatment and enhanced patient follow-up. Urgent care will also be promoted as an alternative to emergency departments for minor or non-acute medical conditions, they said.

Yale New Haven Health CEO Christopher O’Connor said the agreement safeguards continuity of care while supporting the system’s ongoing investments in technology and patient services.
