Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is notifying customers that Hartford Healthcare’s five hospitals may no longer be in its network come Oct. 1, the insurer said.
Anthem and Hartford Healthcare have been in contract negotiations for months, Anthem said, and the provider wants a “double-digit” increase on medical service reimbursement rates for a one-year renewal term.
Anthem said Hartford Healthcare has received payment increases for three years in a row. Anthem has countered with a proposal for “modest inflationary increases” as well as health outcome-based incentives.
Hartford Healthcare released a statement Wednesday denying that it had asked for a double-digit increase.
“We remain hopeful that we will come to an agreement on the negotiations process prior to the contract deadline on September 30, 2014,” the statement said.
Anthem said Hartford Healthcare has also informed it of its intent to terminate contracts with Natchaug Hospital, Rushford Center, Southington Care Center, VNA HealthCare and Jerome Home.
