Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Connecticut’s largest health insurer, is asking state regulators to approve a 12.9 percent rate increase on its individual policyholders.
The proposed change would affect 25,560 policyholders in Connecticut.
If approved by the state insurance department, the new rates would take effect January 1.
According to the rate filing, Anthem is seeking the rate increase because of higher medical and pharmacy costs and to maintain compliance with mandated coverage.
Anthem said the requested increase will also generate the expected 80 percent small group medical loss ratio, required under the new health care reform law.
