A 33-year-old Ansonia woman has been charged with unemployment compensation fraud for allegedly collecting unemployment benefits while working, and failing to report her wages.
Adalis Rivera-Marin was arrested on June 15 and is set to be arraigned in New Britain Superior Court on June 28. She was released on a $10,000 bond.
Unemployment fraud is a Class D felony that is punishable by one- to five-years in prison, along with a $5,000 fine. In addition, she was charged with first-degree larceny by defrauding a public community, a Class B felony. For that charge, she faces a prison term of between one and 20 years, and up to a $15,000 fine.
According to the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, Rivera-Marin fraudulently collected $11,384 in unemployment benefits from April 2020 to August 2020.
The matter was investigated by the Statewide Prosecution Bureau’s Unemployment Compensation Fraud Unit, in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, following a complaint by the Connecticut Department of Labor.
