Analysis: CT gets mixed ranking on best states for first-time homebuyers

Bankrate has ranked Connecticut the 27th best state for first-time homebuyers in a fresh analysis that puts it in the middle of all 50 states.

By comparison, California ranked last as the toughest state for first-time homebuyers, while Iowa ranked first as the easiest.

Criteria that served as the basis for the rankings included housing affordability, the job market for young adults, housing market tightness, credit availability and homeownership among the under-35 crowd.

Connecticut received a total score of 31.88, whereas California earned 13.67 and Iowa received 40.32.

On a scale of 1 to 10, Connecticut scored 8.39 for housing affordability and 7.47 for credit availability. However, housing market tightness earned a high 8.3 compared with Iowa’s 5.6.

Homeownership among under 35 adults received a score of 5.24 while but the job market for young adults was low at 2.48.
