Mission: Our mission is to facilitate, advocate and promote education, support and research for the prevention, treatment and cure of liver disease.
Background: There are more than 100 different forms of liver disease. One in 10 Americans — 30 million in all — have been affected with hepatitis, liver, or gallbladder disease. The American Liver Foundation funds research projects throughout the United States in order to find treatments and cures for many liver diseases. Currently, there is no cure for chronic liver disease.
To add to this epidemic, there is a shortage of organs for donation. There are currently more than 108 people in the state of Connecticut and more than 16,500 people nationwide waiting for a life saving liver transplant. Many will not receive one in time.
The American Liver Foundation provides research funding to fight liver disease, education for patients and their families and information for physicians. ALF also advocates for a sound policy on liver disease, immunization, healthy living, and the importance of organ donation.
Major Fundraiser: Flavors of Connecticut on April 13 is a unique culinary event in the area featuring 30 of the state’s top chefs preparing their signature cuisine for a great cause. Flavors 2010 is presented by Hartford Hospital. Along with a designer, each chef decorates a table and creates a five-course menu completed by wines and dessert for a table of 12 guests. During the reception a random drawing will take place to pair guests with their celebrity chef. Tickets are $225 per person and include the cocktail reception, live entertainment, dinner and more.
