Discount retailer American Freight marked the grand opening of its new store in Derby this weekend after relocating its operations from West Haven.
The new 25,000-square-foot outlet, at 656 West Haven Ave., sells furniture, mattresses and appliances at a discount. The merchandise has been sourced from factories and warehouse-style stores, the company said in a statement.
The store’s prior location was at 190 Frontage Road in West Haven, according to online records. The American Freight chain operates elsewhere in the state in Newington and Rocky Hill.
American Freight offers a range of purchasing plans including no-credit-required options and plans with low monthly payments.
Regional Sales Manager Keith Curtis said, “Keeping this location here in the New Haven area has been really important as we try and make the furniture buying process easier for the community.”
A subsidiary of Franchise Group Inc., American Freight operates 360 locations nationwide in 38 states and Puerto Rico.
The current American Freight brand was formed in 2020 when Sears Outlet merged its 130 stores with Ohio-based home furnishings retailer American Freight. The new chain has no affiliation with Sears.
