AMC reopens theaters in Southington, Lisbon

AMC, America’s largest movie theater chain, continues its staggered reopening Thursday, with Southington and Lisbon among 170 locations nationwide that will fire up their projectors after being closed for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Kansas-based chain announced the 170 locations Wednesday evening, which follow 100 theater reopenings — including Plainville and Danbury — a week ago. AMC offered a 15-cent ticket promotion to draw customers back to the movies.

AMC’s Bloomfield theater is expected to reopen early next month, along with approximately 100 other locations across the country, timed for the release of Christopher Nolan’s spy film “Tenet,” according to AMC.

Gov. Ned Lamont allowed movie theaters to reopen starting June 17, but at 50% capacity and with masks mandatory for employees and customers

Many theaters opted to wait, the Hartford Courant reported in late July.

AMC previously delayed its reopening plans, citing delays in the production of summer blockbusters due to the pandemic.
