E-commerce giant Amazon has ended another partnership with a Mass.-based carrier at its delivery center in Bristol, a state labor filing shows.
Sheffield Express LLC in a letter to the state Department of Labor (DOL) on July 29 said it will end delivery operations at Amazon’s warehouse and “last mile delivery” hub at 71 Horizon Dr. on Sept. 30.
The closure, which will result in 95 permanent layoffs, is the second at the two-year-old Amazon delivery operation in recent weeks. As previously reported, Mass.-based Systemize Logistics LLC recently told state labor officials that Amazon did not renew its delivery contract at the Bristol facility, and will cease operations there in September.
Amazon did not respond to requests for comment on its latest planned closure in Bristol, but has previously said that it works with a variety of carrier partners and regularly evaluates its partnerships.
In Sept. 2019, a Boston-based courier shut down operations at the Bristol delivery center, located in a 60,300-square-foot industrial building. That closure was expected to result in 74 layoffs.
Amazon opened the delivery operation in Aug. 2018, and pledged to add roughly 180 workers to the 30-year-old warehouse. Company officials have not disclosed how many delivery partners, or employees, remain at the facility.
