Amazon sales tax set to kick in Friday

Connecticut and Massachusetts are set to be added to Amazon’s growing list of states that tax the Internet retail giant’s sales.

Connecticut officials inked an agreement with Amazon in February that said the company would invest in a facility here and that the state would apply its 6.25-percent sales tax to residents’ purchases starting Nov. 1.

Amazon is pursuing approvals and tax incentives for a distribution facility in Windsor.

Under federal law, Connecticut cannot require retailers without a physical presence in the state to collect tax on its behalf.
