Amazon announced that it has opened two new distribution centers in Greater Hartford, in Glastonbury and South Windsor, after scaling back an aggressive expansion strategy last year.
The e-commerce giant said it opened the warehouses ahead of the busy holiday gift-giving season. Together, they employ about 250 full- and part-time employees.
Amazon’s 105,000-square-foot warehouse at 35 National Drive in Glastonbury opened on Aug. 30, according to the announcement.
Built in 1973, the facility was renovated in 2021 and is now 100% leased to Amazon. The property is owned by Winstanley Enterprises.

In addition, Amazon opened in nearby South Windsor at 240 Ellington Road on Sept. 27.The 182,000-square-foot facility was built on speculation by Indiana-based developer Scannell Properties, which has been an active builder of industrial facilities in Greater Hartford.
South Windsor approved construction of the facility in 2019. Amazon has signed a long-term lease for the facility.
The openings follow Amazon’s plan to slow down its aggressive logistics network expansion in 2022, following a reported $3.8 billion net loss during the first quarter.
Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $7.2 billion in Connecticut, including infrastructure and employee wages, according to the company.
Also, Amazon said it has created more than 15,000 direct jobs in Connecticut.Â
