Amazon will open a new fulfillment center at the site of the former Pratt & Whitney engine factory in North Haven later this month, bringing hundreds of employment opportunities with it.
The company says it expects to hire up to 1,800 new workers to staff the facility, which will employ state-of-the-art robotics technology to process up to one million customer orders each day.
The Workforce Alliance is partnering with Amazon to host five hiring events for the new facility. The New Haven-based non-profit will provide support for registration, testing and assisting job applicants in navigating the hiring process.
The Amazon jobs pay a minimum hourly wage of $15 for full-time, part-time and seasonal jobs.
The first of the five sessions will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. next Tuesday, July 9, at North Haven High School, 221 Elm St. That will be followed by a July 17 session at the Wallingford Public Library, 200 North Main Street.
Additional sessions are scheduled for July 24 at the Meriden American Jobs Center, 87 West Main St., and July 30 at New Haven City Hall. All hiring sessions are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Amazon anticipates posting the North Haven jobs by July 8. These positions are to be posted here. Applicants may also be notified directly from Amazon when the job application process opens by texting CTNOW to 77088.
Each job candidate must complete the same online application. Those who complete an application in advance and are selected by Amazon to continue will still be directed to attend a hiring event in order to provide necessary identification, watch a video and complete other tasks including an initial drug screen.
In anticipation of the hiring events, the Workforce Alliance and the American Job Centers will host support sessions to complete Amazon applications in advance.
The first of these will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday (July 8) at three locations:
- New Haven American Job Center, 560 Ella T. Grasso Blvd, New Haven;
- Meriden American Job Center, 87 W. Main St., Meriden;
- Middletown American Job Center, 272 S. Main St., Middletown.
