Hartford conglomerate United Technologies Corp. named Elizabeth Amato to succeed retiring J. Thomas Bowler Jr. as its top human resources executive.
To smooth the transition, Amato and Bowler will immediately share job responsibilities as senior vice presidents of HR and organization, pending Bowler’s formal retirement next year, UTC said Thursday.
Amato joined UTC in 1985 at Pratt & Whitney and has more than 27 years of broad human resources experience at multiple business units. She most recently served as vice president of human resources, for UTC Climate, Controls & Security.
She previously held the same position at Carrier, Pratt & Whitney and Sikorsky. Amato holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Davidson College and a law degree from the University of Connecticut.
Bowler is winding up a 33-year UTC career that began in 1979 at Pratt. He has held the senior human resources positions at Pratt and Carrier and previously held executive positions at Carrier’s Asia Pacific Operations, Hamilton Sundstrand, and the former UT Automotive.
He assumed his current post in 2007.
He earned a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a master’s degree from Harvard University.
