Former Connecticut House Speaker James Amann has dropped his Democratic bid for governor after scoring low in a recent poll and filing a report saying he only had about $1,100 in his campaign account.
Amann announced his withdrawal from the crowded 2010 gubernatorial field Thursday at the state Capitol.
A recent Quinnipiac University poll showed Amann with only 5 percent support from registered Democrats. Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont led Democrats in the poll with 27 percent support.
Amann says he still believes he has the most experience and ideas among potential candidates seeking the Democratic nomination.
