Insurance credit rating service A.M. Best Co. says it has affirmed the financial strength “A” ratings and “a+” issuer credit ratings for most of Hartford-based Aetna Inc.’s health divisions.
Best also affirmed its issuer credit ratings (ICR) of “bbb+” on Aetna’s outstanding debt.
Aetna Health Inc. received Best’s affirmation on its  “A” (Excellent) financing strength rating and upgraded the ICR to “a+” from “a”
The rest of Aetna’s business units earned an “A” for financial strength and all, except one, Â had their ICRs raised to “a+” from “a-“.
Best said it was lowering the ICR to “a” from “a+” for Aetna Insurance Co. of Connecticut, because the unit that offers health coverage for pets is too new and an atypical market for Aetna.
