The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection has cleared all its Connecticut beaches safe for swimming for the holiday weekend.
DEEP’s Water Quality Report released Wednesday shows all four of DEEP’s shoreline beaches and 19 beaches on lakes and ponds have low or zero bacteria, ensuring them safe for the public.
DEEP collects samples from the beaches in state parks and state forests. The state Department of Public Health tests those samples for bacteria.
Municipalities must do their own testing for local swimming areas, and information on those beaches must be obtained from local public health agencies.
