Cheshire-based Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc. recorded a dramatic increase in total revenue to $45.6 million in Q1 2008 from $6.3 million for the same period in 2007.
According to Alexion, first quarter 2008 revenues were primarily for net product sales of Soliris, a drug used for the treatment of a blood disease, approved by the Food and Drug Administration in March 2007 and the European Commission in June 2007. Net product sales for the drug were $45.5 million in the first quarter of 2008, up from $1 million during the same period last year. The company reported a net loss of $4.2 million on a GAAP basis in the quarter, compared to a net loss of $32.7 million in the 2007 quarter.
