Cheshire drug maker Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc. has been recognized for promoting an environmentally friendly workplace and ecologically sustainable business practices.
Alexion announced Monday two Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certifications for its headquarters-research facility.
It also received the 2010 Connecticut Green Council Green Advocate Award for environmental stewardship.
Among its efforts, Alexion won praise for healthy and productive work spaces that are less costly to operate and maintain. In addition, Alexion and its employees, through recycling, have diverted more than 45 tons of waste from landfills, including batteries, paper, equipment, metal and carpeting, officials said.
Alexion also recently installed a new heat recovery system to reduce heating and cooling loads in the company’s laboratories.
