Alexion EVP promoted to COO, named to board

Cheshire drug maker Alexion Pharmaceuticals said it has promoted David Hallal to the newly created position of chief operating officer and appointed him to a new seat on its board.

Hallal, most recently executive vice president and chief commercial officer, has been with Alexion since 2006. He will continue to lead global commercial operations, and will also lead company-wide initiatives and expand his role with external stakeholders, Alexion said.

The company said the promotion is part of an effort to strengthen and broaden its leadership team as it continues to pursue global markets.

Alexion also promoted two of its managers to executive vice president. They are Clare Carmichael, chief human resources officer, and General Counsel John Moriarty.

The company also hired Edward Miller to the newly created position of senior vice president and chief compliance officer.
