Alexion adding stories to future New Haven HQ

Alexion Pharmaceuticals has requested approval to increase the size of its future headquarters building at New Haven’s Downtown Crossing, city official announced.

The company, which was founded in New Haven, has asked developer Winstanley Enterprises to modify construction plans to include an additional two stories of space at the 100 College St. site, where it is the main tenant. The change would bring the planned building to 12 stories and approximately 500,000 square feet, up from the originally proposed 425,000 square feet.

Alexion plans to relocate its Cheshire headquarters — and more than 400 employees — when the $184 million development is complete in 2015.

New Haven officials said Downtown Crossing is the largest infrastructure project in the city in decades. It’s expected to bring 900 jobs to New Haven.
