ALDI embraces paying with plastic

Discount grocer ALDI says its more than 30 million shoppers monthly can now pay with credit cards at any of its stores in Connecticut and across the U.S.

The Batavia, Ill., retailer said Tuesday it was reversing course, and allowing credit cards — including Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.

“As ALDI continues to evolve by expanding its product lines and moving into new markets, the way we do business will continue to evolve as well,” said ALDI CEO Jason Hart. “We care about being able to make our customers’ shopping experiences simpler and better every time they come to see us; and offering them the convenience of using their credit cards will help us do just that.”

Tomorrow, March 2, ALDI’s is hosting a one-day hiring spree for multiple locations across the Northeast, including stores in West Hartford, Rocky Hill, Wallingford and Milford. These hiring events will focus filling up to 65 manager trainee positions, with an average starting wage of $25 an hour.

Later this month, ALDI said it will launch its first stores in southern California. By the end of 2018, there will be nearly 2,000 ALDI stores from coast-to-coast, the chain said.
