Hartford’s Virtus Investment Partners Inc. has named David L. Albrycht, a veteran equity portfolio manager and Wall Street commentator, to be its first chief investment officer.
Albrycht will assume his duties in the multi-sector fixed income strategies division at Virtus’ newly established affiliate, Newfleet Asset Management. Â Newfleet managed more than $8 billion of fixed-income assets for individuals and institutional clients.
Virtus said it also brought aboard member of Albrycht’s investment management team overseeing some $5.2 billion of Virtus’ fixed income assets.
Albrycht previously was executive managing director and senior portfolio manager of Virtus’ Goodwin Capital Advisers unit.
He has appeared, Virtus said, on CNBC and Bloomberg Television and has been quoted or featured in numerous publications, including Barron’s, The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Dow Jones and Investment News.
He started as a credit analyst in 1985 and became a portfolio manager in 1991. Â He earned a B.A. from Central Connecticut State University and an MBA from the University of Connecticut. Â He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
In late morning trading Friday, Virtus shares were up $3.73, or 6.9 percent, to $58.18.
