Albertus names director of planned nursing program

Albertus Magnus College announced it has hired Cynthia Jeffrey as the inaugural director of its planned Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

Jeffrey starts in her new role on July 1. She has more than two decades of experience as a nurse and more than a decade of teaching and administrative experience in higher education.

The Catholic college’s new nursing program officially begins in the Fall 2024 semester.

Jeffrey most recently served as associate director of clinical nursing education at the University of Bridgeport. She previously held administrative and faculty appointments at St. Vincent’s College and Sacred Heart University.

“Preparing skilled, diverse graduates for the nursing field is more important now than ever,” Jeffrey said.

Sean O’Connell, vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty, said, “We welcome Dr. Jeffrey to Albertus at this critical time as the college looks to be a part of the solution to Connecticut’s nursing shortage.”

Albertus was recently awarded $805,000 in funding from the Connecticut Health Horizons Program, launched by the state last year to increase opportunities for aspiring nurses and social workers. The college plans to use the funds toward its new nursing program and for continuing education for nursing faculty.
