New Haven-based Albertus Magnus College, which has a campus in East Hartford, has appointed Marc M. Camille as its first new president in 35 years, effective June 30.
The college’s board of trustees unanimously named Camille the college’s 14th president, replacing interim president Sister Anne Kilbride and longtime President Julia M. McNamara. McNamara served for 34 years as the school’s longest running leader; Kilbride will have served a year come June.
Camille, 49, is vice president for enrollment management and communications at Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore.
Founded in 1925, Albertus Magnus is a liberal arts and Catholic college in the Dominican tradition. Camille said he is drawn to the school’s religious and educational approach and the professionally focused undergraduate and graduate programs offered at the school.
Jeanne M. Dennison, chairwoman of the board of trustees and presidential search committee, said Camille’s leadership at private and Catholic institutions over 20 years made him stand out.
Prior to his 11 years at Loyola University Maryland, Camille served as the dean of admission and financial aid for Xavier University in Ohio and also worked for the University of Miami and Mount Ida College in Massachusetts.
