What does AAA see for the upcoming holiday season? Is it going to be a heavy travel season or are people dialing back for the holidays?
The holidays are traditionally a time for families and friends to travel, regardless of economic concerns or pressures. What is going to happen in the next couple of months in terms of fuel prices? It’s not possible, of course, to accurately predict fuel prices, but what is the general sense?
Crude oil continues to be the biggest driver of gas prices. Despite recent run-ups in crude oil prices, the majority of indicators suggest oil may not have room to go much farther past the $80 mark in the near future than it already has, barring any unforeseen events.  A weak dollar, strong global oil supplies and typical lower demand for gasoline during fall and winter seasons should help keep oil prices, and gas prices, in check.

AAA has a travel agency as part of its business. What are the trends in travel lately? Are people traveling more domestically when planning their vacations? Or do “staycations” continue to be popular?

What trends are forthcoming in travel? Are people planning vacations already for summer or are they postponing those decisions?
People are booking more in advance and beginning to shift away from last-minute travel. The Caribbean and Mexico continue to be popular all-inclusive resort destinations because of the sunny weather and great deals available to travelers. European sales are also beginning to increase because of very attractive pricing. AAA is currently offering travel packages to Europe with 2-for-1 airfares. River cruising is also another emerging trend as the new “it” thing to do. Cruise lines are introducing new, more modern and luxurious boats that bring passengers up close and personal to major European cities. Disney continues to be one of AAA members’ most popular destinations, often because of the exclusive discounts and benefits available to members.
