Attorney General George Jepsen on Monday said he will not run for re-election next year.
It’s not clear what Jepsen’s future plans are, but they don’t include running for a third term as the state’s top lawyer. He has scheduled a 2 p.m. press conference today. He announced earlier this year that he wasn’t interested in a run for governor.
In a statement, Jepsen said he finalized the decision not to run for re-election after consulting with his family recently. Calling the work to date “an honor,” he said, “While my love for the work of this office is undiminished, I am ready to pursue different challenges. I do so knowing that the men and women of the Office of the Attorney General will continue to serve and protect our state and its residents with distinction.”
He hinted at a future public role, adding, “I do not yet know what my future holds, but look forward to advancing the interests of Connecticut for the remainder of my term and in other capacities.”
