Attorney General Richard Blumenthal today confirmed there is an ongoing investigation into Progressive Business Compliance and other companies that deceptively market and sell state compliance posters to employers – posters that are already available from the state, free of charge.
PBC’s blast faxes, e-mails and other marketing material suggest they come from a government-affiliated source.
The marketing material also falsely claims there is a new requirement that employers purchase compliance posters or face thousands of dollars in fines. PBC offers the posters for $12.99 each or a Complete Connecticut State Kit of 11 posters for $89.99.
“PBC deserves a state warning poster of its own about consumer protection laws,” Blumenthal said in a statement. “Deliberately deceiving consumers into purchasing posters – through false claims about legal requirements or a company’s government affiliation – is plainly prohibited by our consumer protection laws.”
