Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, in a brief filed today, said the Department of Public Utility Control should reject Connecticut Light & Power Co’s. proposed $190 million rate increase.
Blumenthal, calling the proposed rate hike “unjustified and unaffordable,” said CL&P’s request is an unrealistic “wish list.” Included in the rate hike request is funding for an extensive number of managers, not because they are needed now, but because they may be needed in the future, an exorbitant rate of return, Blumenthal said.
About $3 million in the proposed rate hike is for added executive compensation, including retirement benefits beyond existing pension plans.
