Aetna Inc. reported net income of $431.6 million, or 85 cents per share, in the first quarter, compared with $434.6 million, or 81 cents per share a year earlier.
Excluding one-time items, earnings of the Hartford-based health insurer were 92 cents per share, matching Wall Street’s expectations. Membership growth and higher premiums pushed revenue growth up 16 percent to $7.74 billion in the quarter, beating analysts’ estimates.
Aetna shares were trading at $42.20, down 89 cents, or 2.08 percent, at 10:30 a.m.
