Aetna to cover Pa. state retirees

Hartford managed care provider Aetna Inc. will provide Medicare coverage to retired Pennsylvania state workers, beginning Jan. 1.

The Pennsylvania Employees Benefit Trust Fund contracted with Aetna to deliver Medicare Advantage PPO plans to state retirees. Aetna also will be among three health plans providing Medicare Advantage HMO plans.

Terms were not disclosed.

Russ Dickhart, chief operating officer for Aetna’s government and labor division, said the contract opens the door to a new government-business opportunity for Aetna.

Aetna provides health benefits to more than 1.1 million members in Pennsylvania.
