The Aetna Foundation is offering $750,000 a piece to six tech innovators to develop digital-health tools that better serve low-income and underserved communities.
The foundation’s Healthier World Challenge will also support the winners it selects by helping them implement their innovations.
The challenge comes as more low-income Americans connect to the Internet through smart phones. But those communities also have high incidences of heart disease and diabetes, the foundation said.
Nonprofits, community organizations and government agencies will be eligible for the awards. Proposals are due in March.
