Hartford managed care provider Aetna Inc. has latched onto a Seattle online social media site to help convince its members to take more control over their health and wellness.
Mindbloom’s Life Game (www.mindbloom.com) is an interactive online site that encourages players to engage in activities and set goals – like planting a tree, finding new friends or drinking more water — that promote more balanced, healthier living.
Aetna said Tuesday that, starting in the fall, many of its 34 million members will have access to Mindbloom’s engagement model that relies on the science behind social gaming.
Prevention is increasingly seen in the health care industry as a way to get more benefit from what Aetna claims is the $200 billion consumers spend annually on healthy living products and services.
Yet, “the rates of chronic health conditions and obesity continue to rise …” said Kyra Bobinet, MD, medical director of health and wellness innovation at Aetna. “We think the Mindbloom Life Game will provide a fun, rewarding and effective way for Aetna’s members to make lasting improvements in their physical and emotional well-being.”
Aetna says its collaboration will involve a significant enhancement to the Life Game as well as new mobile features.
