Aetna promotes Rohan to president

Hartford health insurer Aetna said it has promoted Karen S. Rohan to president, effective next month.

Aetna hired Rohan — previously an executive with Bloomfield competitor Cigna and Magellan Health Services — in 2012 as executive vice president and head of specialty products.

She assumed management of the company’s local and regional businesses a year later and also led integration efforts related to its acquisition of Coventry Health Care.

In her new role, Rohan, 51, will add oversight of national, government and specialty businesses to her list of duties.

Rohan earned total compensation of $3.4 million in 2013. Aetna did not say what changes would be made to her pay, given her new title.
