Aetna Inc. has elevated the importance of nurses to the Hartford managed care provider with the naming of Susan M. Kosman to its new post of chief nursing officer.
Kosman, who has spent 14 years with Aetna, will support the more than 3,000 nurses who often are the front line in helping Aetna members comprehend their care and benefits.
“The nurses at Aetna do a tremendous job of working with health care professionals to facilitate our members’ access to the care and resources they need,” said Aetna President Mark T. Bertolini.
Aetna said Kosman has held a number of leadership roles in areas related to its clinical capabilities, including overseeing dedicated patient management units and leading national medical management operations.
Before joining Aetna, Kosman spent 10 years in the home health industry in various roles. She holds a   nursing degree from SUNY Downstate and completed her masters in organizational leadership from Quinnipiac University in January 2009.
