Hartford managed care insurer Aetna Inc. led major companies with Connecticut headquarters in an annual Top 50 ranking of best U.S. employers for diversity.
Aetna ranked No. 30 on DiversityInc.’s 2010 survey of companies for their demonstrated use of measurable diversity best practices and results.
Aetna rated strongly in four categories: its CEO commitment; human capital; corporate and organizational communication; and supplier diversity.
It also ranked in the top 10 of companies for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees and employees with disabilities, the magazine’s survey said.
Xerox, based in Norwalk, ranked 48th on this year’s list.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, which is preparing to move headquarters to Stamford from White Plains, N.Y., was No. 19.
Among companies with major operations in Connecticut, AT&T was No. 3; Bank of America, No. 9; Cox Communications, No. 21; The Walt Disney Co., parent of ESPN, No. 33; MetLife, No. 42; Wells Fargo & Co., No. 43; and WellPoint, parent of Anthem Blue Cross of Connecticut, No. 50.
