Hartford health insurer Aetna Inc. named a former officer from rival WellPoint Inc. to oversee its push to coordinate patient care to better improve treatment outcomes.
Charles Kennedy, M.D., was previously WellPoint’s vice president of health information technology.
WellPoint, based in Indianapolis, is the parent of Hamden-based Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Connecticut.
“Patient-centered, collaborative care models are an important component of Aetna’s vision for a more connected and effective health care system,” said Charles E. Saunders, M.D., Aetna’s strategic diversification chief, said in a statement announcing Kennedy’s hiring.
