Hartford insurer Aetna and Hartford Healthcare said they have signed a two-year network agreement and plan to offer new accountable-care products.
The network agreement takes effect Jan. 1. The insurer and the five-hospital system plan to implement an accountable-care agreement for Aetna members starting next year, and will jointly introduce new insurance products in 2016.
Under such arrangements, healthcare providers assume quality and cost responsibility for a group of patients, with financial incentives as a possible reward.
Hartford Healthcare said the 2,000 doctors and providers that are a part of its physician group — Integrated Care Partners — will be involved in the effort.
The accountable-care products build on an existing collaboration involving Hartford Healthcare’s employee population, the companies said.
