Editor’s note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated Aetna Foundation launched the program in 2010 with a $250,000 grant.

The philanthropic arm of Hartford managed care provider Aetna Inc. is committing an extra $197,000 to lure more minority researchers into finding ways to narrow disparities in health care treatment.

Aetna Foundation announced its latest grant will extend its partnership with AcademyHealth — a nonprofit professional society — through 2013.

Launched in 2010 with an initial $100,000 grant, the AcademyHealth/Aetna Foundation Minority Scholars Program provides professional development, mentoring and networking opportunities to attract graduate-level students, post-doctoral fellows and other researchers who are African-, Latin-, Asian- and Native American to the field of racial and ethnic disparities in health outcomes and access to health care.
