The Girl Scouts of Connecticut is one of three nonprofit organizations chosen in an online poll that will share in a $100,000 grant from Aetna Foundation in Hartford.
The Girl Scouts, based in Hartford, Students Run L.A., in Tarzan, Calif., and MicheLee Puppets Inc., in Orlando, Fla., will use the money for their programs meant to curb childhood obesity.
Aetna Foundation said the trio received the highest number of votes in its online Fight Childhood Obesity Grant Contest, which ran from Sept. 13 through Oct. 5 on its web site.
Students Run L.A., the top vote-getter with 213,810 votes, will receive a $50,000 grant; the Girl Scouts, the second-place vote-getter with 185,564 votes, will get $35,000; and MicheLee Puppets, the third-place finisher with 175,523 votes, gets $15,000.
