Electric supplier Aequitas Energy Inc. made its retail electric service available in Connecticut on Jan. 25.
The New Haven company is now looking to extend itself within Connecticut and eventually beyond to Massachusetts and other deregulated states.
Out of about 40 companies and plans competing in Connecticut, Aequitas Energy has among the lowest electric rates.
When business and residential customers switch energy suppliers, it is generally seamless as deregulated states allow ratepayers to change suppliers while still receiving their bills from utilities.
